We formed the Referendum Party to advance the collective interests of the Western Cape people, but the Western Cape people are themselves very diverse.

It is essential that communities and cultural groups within the Western Cape and elsewhere are able to celebrate their languages and cultures and to allow them to flourish in a spirit of mutual tolerance and respect. It is also essential that communities are given meaningful input in how they are governed.

This is especially important when it comes to minority groups who require some degree of protection to ensure that they don’t perpetually have the values of the majority forced onto them against their will.

To achieve this, it is important that cultural institutions such as schools, places of worship, and meeting places are available. If large numbers of our children cannot see a future for themselves in this country, then it is a clear sign that things have gone badly wrong.
